Who's Who in CCWA: Ingrid and Konrad Seyfferth
(reprinted from the April 2006 newsletter)
Note: The CCWA has quite a few new members and we have been looking for ways to help us get to
know each other. We’re hoping to make “Who’s Who in the CCWA” a regular feature but we need your help.
If you know of someone whose story should be told please pass their
name and contact info along to the
newsletter editor.
by Mike Murphy
Ingrid and Konrad Seyfferth are
German citizens and regular
visitors to Bird Island, making
two trips a year for the
past 9 years. Both windsurf
and kitesurf. In 2002 their
motor home was totaled at
BIB when a rogue thunderstorm
turned it over. They
are proud to have Texas
license plates and driver’s
licenses and have
recently joined the CCWA.
Hometown: Alfeld, Germany (the setting for
Snow White and the seven
dwarfs), located 30 miles south of
Hanover.
Occupation:
Ingrid worked as a bank clerk
and Konrad is a retired architect
and teacher. Ingrid is still in
charge of the money at home.
Windsurfing History:
They have windsurfed in the
Baltic Sea, Italy, Denmark,
Greece, the Netherlands, France,
and Baja. Both strongly believe
the Republic of Bird Island is the
best place to windsurf.
When and where did you start
windsurfing?
Ingrid and Konrad began windsurfing
in 1984 on a small lake
near their hometown.
Why do you windsurf?
Ingrid was excited about windsurfing
so Konrad had no choice,
he had to windsurf also.
What keeps you windsurfing?
Windsurfing is fun and helps
keep you in good shape. Most
importantly, to meet people who
share the same passion.
What is your funniest windsurfing
experience?
“We were the only windsurfers
on a small lake and had a collision.”
(Ingrid and Konrad have
spent years trying to determine
who caused the collision.)
What was your scariest or
worst windsurfing experience? Konrad once was lost in the fog
and could not find his way back
to the launch.
What do you want CCWA members
to know about yourselves?
Both Ingrid and Konrad will be
65 years old this year and have
been married 42 years. Their
daughter, Gabriele, lives in Berlin,
Germany.
Something you may not know
about Ingrid and Konrad:
On their visits to BIB since
2005, Ingrid and Konrad have
devoted a couple of hours a day
to picking up trash along the
walking beach at the Malaquite
Visitors Center. The PINS
acknowledged their efforts with
an award certificate for contributing
to the beach clean-up after
hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Ingrid and Konrad have contributed
approximately 800 hours
for the benefit of the PINS. Both
Ingrid and Konrad thoroughly
enjoy their visits to BIB and feel
that their volunteer effort is the
least they can do to show their
appreciation. |
